I-94 Closure Kicks Off Construction Season
Spring brings roadwork, headaches to Macomb County residents.
As always, spring is a mixed bag for Macomb County motorists.
While the roadways are clear of snow and slick spots, they have a whole new set of problems with roadwork.
“It’s always bad, but this year is even worse,” said Don Trumble, a resident of Clinton Township who drives all over Macomb County as part of his job as a salesman. “I noticed Mount Clemens is already tore up–and I’m sure that’s just the beginning.”

This weekend, motorists can expect a total closure of eastbound and westbound I-94 at 11 Mile, from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, for a bridge demolition.
Eastbound motorists will be detoured at Eight Mile, west to Gratiot, north to Metropolitan Parkway and then east back to I-94.

Westbound motorists will take westbound I-94 to I-696, exit at Gratiot, take Gratiot south to Eight Mile and then take Eight Mile east to get back on I-94.
Following is a list of ongoing construction projects that are expected to hamper motorists throughout the upcoming weeks:
• The ramp from eastbound I-696 to 11 Mile is closed through Aug. 21.
• The right lane of eastbound I-696 is closed from Mound to Gratiot through June 13.
• A single lane closer on the westbound I-696 service drive from Hoover Road to John R through May 9.
• The ramp from westbound 11 Mile to westbound I-94 is closed through June 9.
• The shoulder of the eastbound I-94 ramp to Nine Mile is closed through Saturday.
• The shoulder of eastbound and westbound I-94 from 21 Mile to 24 Mile is closed for utility work through December.
• The U-turn overpass west of Hoover Road over I-696 is closed through June 30. An alternate route is advised.
• Three northbound lanes are closed on the Van Dyke overpass over I-696. Two northbound lanes and one southbound lane of traffic are maintained on the west side of the overpass for construction. In addition, the eastbound and westbound I-696 service drives in the vicinity have a lane closed.
• Northbound Gratiot is closed completely at the Clinton River for bridge reconstruction through Saturday.
