Happening This Weekend: Cars, Concerts, Girls Night Out and More

Enjoy sizzling blues, escapist jams, a bit of culture and crafts and a cool ladies night out.


Where/When: Downtown Mount Clemens, 5-9 p.m. Aug. 4.
Why Go: It's Girls Night in downtown Mount Clemens, and the theme is Hawaiian. Be sure to don your tropical stylings and enjoy a fun night of shopping, drink specials, games, refreshments, giveaways, and live music by surf rockers The Slot Rods, on the Fountain Stage, along Macomb Place, near Pine Street.


Where/When: The Detroit Institute of Arts, 5200 Woodward, Detroit; 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Aug. 5.
Why Go: Enjoy a Friday full of fun at the DIA with music, crafts and art. From 11 a.m.-3 p.m. everyone can practice making their own Cylinder Seals, an ancient way of signing one's name and proving ownership. From 6-9 p.m. everyone can practice making Uchiwa, Japanese paper fans. At 7 and 8:30 p.m., enjoy performances by the George Cole Quintet, with music that brings to mind Gershwin, Mercer and Porter. And of course, it's Friday, so the galleries will be open for drawing.
Pricing: Museum admission is $8 for adults; $6 for seniors; $4 for kids 6-17; and all events are included with admission. Of course, members get in free.


Where/When: Wahby Park, in front of , 7-8 p.m. Aug. 4.
Why Go: Enjoy a free chamber music-strings concert in the park, performed by the Lake St. Clair Symphony Orchestra.

MOUNT CLEMENS IS JAMMIN'
Where/When: Downtown Mount Clemens, 7:30-11 p.m. Aug. 5.
Why Go: Enjoy two free concerts, the last of the season, in downtown Mount Clemens. At 7:30, Air Margaritaville performs Jimmy Buffett classics as part of the , along the waterfront. Head over to the at 9:30 for a show by The Allies, who'll perform acoustic rock with edge.


Where/When: Crews Inn, 31988 N. River Road, Harrison Township; 9 p.m. Aug. 5.
Why Go: Hear the country stylings of Joey Vee as he performs at the Crews Inn this evening.

Why Go: Hear The Alligators rock the Blue Goose Inn with sizzling blues jams this weekend.

Why Go: Celebrate the Motor City's heritage with this awesome cruise, attended by more than 100,000 people, and now in its ninth year. Enjoy music, memories, cool cars, and plenty of other fun for all ages all day long.

Where/When: , 3-4:30 p.m. Aug. 7.
Why Go: Members of the Grosse Pointe Symphony Orchestra will perform works by Bach and Handel in the Moross Cafe at St. John Hospital. Special guest soloists Don Baker and Laurie Landers Goldman, both members of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, will perform.
