Get Out: The Carnival Comes to Town

Need ideas for the weekend? Vegas night, theater, Cinco de Mayo fun, carnival hijinks and more await your planning pleasure.


Where/When:; 1 p.m.-midnight, Thursday.
Why Go: Rojo is celebrating Cinco de Mayo with live entertainment, including Greg DiLone on conga drums, salsa dancing at 9 p.m., a Dos Equis limbo contest, giveaways and food and drink specials all day long.
Pricing: Varies.


Where/When: St. Clair Shores Department of Parks and Recreation; Thursday-Sunday.
Why Go: Enjoy a carnival for a cause. Stop in and enjoy rides for young and old, games, goodies, refreshments and more. Money raised goes toward the sports group Carnival Fun, which helps parks and rec programs. The carnival will be open from 3 p.m.-10 p.m.  Thursday, noon-11 p.m. Friday, noon-11 p.m. Saturday, noon - 10 p.m. Sunday.  All-day ride passes are available for $18 for Saturday and Sunday.
Pricing: Free parking, and free to browse.


Where/When: ; 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday and May 13-14.
Why Go: The St. Clair Shores Players are putting on Thornton Wilder's classic play, Our Town, for its spring show. Come see this story of small-town, all-American life performed on stage.
Pricing: $10 adults, $9 children and student with ID. Group discounts available.

Why Go: Enjoy a night of horn-driven music and rock and funk covers of Blood, Sweat and Tears, Stevie Wonder, Chicago, Sly and the Family Stone.
Pricing: $4 cover.


Where/When: VFW Bruce Post 1146; 6 p.m.-midnight, Friday-Saturday.
Why Go: Enjoy the hard work of the Ladies Auxiliary, who is putting together a Vegas Night. Play blackjack, let it ride, roulette, big money wheel and more, and enjoy hot dogs, pizza and more—all to help the general fund.
Pricing: Depends on what you're betting.

Where/When: Ye Olde Tap Room; Saturday, 7 p.m.-close.
Why Go: Party like it's 1933! Ye Olde Tap Room is holding a Prohibition Party. Dress in your vintage best—pinstripe gangster suit or roaring '20s flapper gear—and have a shot at the best costume prize. There will also be live music authentic to the era (start practicing your Charleston), and beer is a nickel with purchase of commemorative mug.
