I. Cash-Strapped and Eco-Conscious in Southeast Michigan

I'm lucky if I take home $500.00 a month and yet here I am, fretting over my fish-poop budget.

I’m lucky if I take home $500.00 a month and yet here I am, fretting over my fish-poop budget.

A semi-green thumb born and raised in the Shores, I learned a few years ago that my passion lay in the natural world. I find meditation and purpose simply being outdoors, playing in dirt. Funnily enough, that soil-love complements the fact that I’m dirt poor! Like so many others in Southeast Michigan, I can’t seem to get enough cash-ola in my life. Lucky for me, I’m only 20 and have the “luxury” of living with my parents.

Last May I discovered the joy of gardening, which undoubtedly stems from my passion for putting tasty, homegrown food in my mouth. My permacultural inexperience last year put me in the fiscal red, but I learned many-a lesson and am optimistic for 2013. A few times a week, I’ll chronicle my work in the garden as well as various eco-events I attend in the region. Sprinkled throughout I’ll touch on the financial aspects of being green by the scraps of my wages, natural health remedies I attempt, and perhaps an introspective thought or two.

Documenting my green adventures sounds like a jolly-good way to amuse others with my inevitable errors and hone my writing craft. Plus I can spread the Mother Earth-lovin’ word to the masses!

…or at least to the six or seven people who accidentally link to my blog. Happy digging!
