Week in Review in St. Clair Shores

Residents celebrate Veterans Day, tax break brings jobs to Fisher Dynamics, and a fishing column from Capt. Dan debuts.

In case you missed it, residents paused last week to honor the sacrifices of veterans who gave their lives in defense of the country, city leaders gathered to celebrate new jobs at Fisher Dynamics, and began a series of community meetings. Also, a fishing column from Capt. Dan from  debuted in your St. Clair Shores Patch.

New jobs

Fisher Dynamics and city officials gathered Wednesday to unveil the city awarded the automotive supplier in the spring. The abatement helped ensure Fisher Dynamics stayed planted in local soil, and in turn Fisher has spent about $10 million to upgrade its facility, retaining employees as well as hiring new ones, and it's plugging away on some GM projects — the Chevrolet Cruze, the Volt, the Aveo, for starters.

School meetings

met for the first time Tuesday. During the first of six planned  2 1/2-hour meetings, district officials gave a comprehensive overview of how the district is run, discussed the budget and curriculum issues, and explained the various state and federal requirements Lake Shore must meet.

Honoring veterans

  held a  Thursday. Members of the Post took time to honor those who are currently serving in the military, as well as those who have given their lives in defense of the United States. The nearly half-hour ceremony included the national anthem, "Taps" and a 21-gun salute. Also, the names of the 66 members of the Bruce Post who died in the past year were read.
