Wally's Frozen Custard and Coffee Station to Open in St. Clair Shores

The owners of Wally's Frozen Custard and Coffee Station will hold a grand opening weekend Oct. 27-28.

Construction is nearly complete on the new Wally's Frozen Custard and Coffee Station on Harper in St. Clair Shores and the owners are planning a grand opening celebration during the weekend of Oct. 27-28.

Matt and Eliza Ahearn appeared Monday before St. Clair Shores City Council to invite elected officials and the community to a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27.

"We are very excited to be here," said Matt Ahearn, who has owned the frozen custard shop with his wife for the past nine years. "It has been a long summer, but we are ready."

For nearly 60 years Wally's has been an eastside destination for frozen treats on Harper, south of 8 Mile, in Harper Woods. But with the expansion of menu items, the business outgrew the original 700-square-foot building.

Now Wally's has a new location, on the corner of Harper and Elizabeth, with additional parking, a drive-thru and a 2,600-square-foot building to serve customers.

Eliza Ahearn said the menu will include frozen custard throughout the year and will have an extended menu with speciality coffees, lattes, cappuccinos, breakfast items, sandwiches and her "famous" Galley chicken salad.

"We are very proud to be in the city of St. Clair Shores," she said. "We love this city and are really happy to serve this community."

Throughout the opening weekend the Ahearns will be sampling items including the chicken salad, hot caramel apple cider and hot pumpkin pie lattes. There will also be clowns, balloon characters and a fire truck drawing contest.

"We are glad to have you," said Mayor Kip Walby during the meeting.
