St. Clair Shores's BrightStar Home Care Awarded Highest Accreditation

St. Clair Shores and Grosse Pointe senior care company receives top accreditation honor.

BrightStar Care, provider of companion, personal and nursing home care, was awarded The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for accreditation by demonstrating compliance with stringent national standards for home health care quality and safety for the elderly and disabled.

The eastside home care agency underwent a rigorous on-site survey in early November. A Joint Commission surveyor evaluated the operation for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients, including infection prevention and control, leadership and medication management.

“We are honored to have our dedication to home care excellence recognized by this important organization,” said Anne Marie Gattari, president and owner of BrightStar Care of Grosse Pointe/Southeast Macomb.

Joint Commission accreditation is especially important in Michigan because the state does not require a license to practice private duty home care, Gattari said.

“This designation gives families peace of mind that BrightStar provides the highest quality of care to their loved ones,” she said.

Gattari credited her team with achieving this milestone: “Everyone here at BrightStar plays a valuable role in working to meet the Joint Commission standards. It’s a real source of pride to work an accredited organization,” she said.

Margherita Labson, R.N., executive director of Home Care Accreditation at The Joint Commission, said, "In achieving Joint Commission accreditation, BrightStar Care of Grosse Pointe/Southeast Macomb has demonstrated its commitment to the highest level of care for its patients.

“Accreditation is a voluntary process, and I commend them for successfully undertaking this challenge to elevate its standard of care and instill confidence in the community they serve.”

Founded in 1951, The Joint Commission is the nation's oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. The independent, not-for-profit organization seeks to continuously improve health care for the public, in collaboration with other stakeholders, by evaluating health care organizations and inspiring them to excel in providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value.

BrightStar Care of Grosse Pointe/Southeast Macomb opened on the eastside of Detroit in 2011. It is part of a nationwide network of franchised agencies providing full-service medical and non-medical care to clients in their own homes. All caregivers go through a stringent hiring process, are insured, bonded and background checked. They are supervised by a staff Registered Nurse.
