Lady Jane's is a Cut Above Other Salons

Lady Jane's Haircuts for Men, founded in St. Clair Shores, is now expanding across the country and taking on philanthropic efforts.

When Lady Jane's Haircuts for Men first opened in 2005 in St. Clair Shores, the founders looked to create a location for guys that provided more of an "experience" than the quick, standard cut of a barber shop but not as intense as a traditional salon.

"We want to deliver a haircut experience for a man," said Tim McCollum, president and COO of Lady Jane's.

McCollum said founder Chad Johnson wanted to create an experience where a customer could "feel like a guy, be treated like a guy and get a great haircut experience."

From the man-cave like features of leather recliners, HD televisions and sports memorabilia in the salon, to stylists providing a hot towel treatment, neck rub, scalp massage and a hair cut, Lady Jane's strives to be unique, he said.

"You walk in and we make you feel like a million bucks," McCollum said. "We believe our haircut experience really provides guys with a stress release."

Expansion into other states

Lady Jane's is now in seven states, as close as Ohio and as far away as North Carolina. In addition to adding location, the company has increased its charitable efforts.

The company has raised funds for a number a charities and is now working to raise funds during the NCAA tournament for the Jalen Rose Academy. Basketballs will be sold in the Michigan and Toledo stores to allow the academy purchase computers, uniforms and new learning tools.

Later this year, Lady Jane's will also be launching its own foundation to support those in need.

"We have a very passionate person at the top (Chad Johnson)," said McCollum. "He also takes time to smell the roses. He has been blessed and likes to give back."
