A year-round swim school located in five other Michigan cities is asking for input from parents in the Grosse Pointes and St. Clair Shores about whether having a franchise in the area would be beneficial.
Goldfish Swim School is trying to gain as much feedback as possible while researching whether to open a location in the Grosse Pointe-St. Clair Shores area, according to a letter recently given to parents at Assumption Nursery School.
Parents are asked in the letter to complete a short survey online, which is estimated to take about two minutes. Along with the survey, parents are asked to express how they would feel about having a Goldfish location in the area.
Opening a location nearby would be an estimated investment of about $1 million, according to Goldfish's estimate of the necessary financial support needed to open a franchise.
The Michigan-grown company has franchise locations in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and Pennsylvania. The most recent location opened in Okemos in November, according to the company's website.
It's original location in Birmingham opened in 2006 after the founding owners completed two years of research. That location currently serves 1,500 students per month, according to the website.
Offering year-round swim lessons to children, the company has a 4:1 ratio of students to teacher. All of the teachers are Red Cross certified and trained swimming instructors. Children begin at one level and advance as they demonstrate competency in a range of skills deemed appropropriate for each level, according to the website.
Locations also offer space to have events, such as birthday parties. Goldfish caters to students ages four months old and older.
