Contest: Get Coney For Kids Tickets From Patch

Patch is offering four tickets to the Coney for Kids dinner at the Senior Center of the Shores. The event is one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the St. Clair Shores Parks and Recreation's Special Needs Children's Playground Program.

Every summer for the past 15 years the has held a summer program playground program for children with special needs.

Participants take field trips, go swimming and take part in arts, crafts and sports activities during the camp.

But before the camp starts, the community comes together for a Coney dog dinner fundraiser catered by in the .

The popular coney chain, which has three locations in St. Clair Shores, brings in a mobile catering stand and makes each dog to order—with or without chili, mustard, extra onions or with everything!

The dinner, which is sponsored by Christian Financial Credit Union, will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at the and features coney dogs, pop, chips and treats.

Proceeds from the dinner help offset the costs of the summer program for  children who are blind, have Down Syndrome and other disorders.

As part of Patch's commitment to be part of our community and support local organizations, and promoting one of Metro Detroit's favorite dishes—Coney dogs—St. Clair Shores and Grosse Pointe Patch are helping promote the dinner by offering four tickets to our readers.

How do you enter? That's as easy as spreading a heaping helping of Coney sauce on a hot dog.

In the comment section below, share with Patch your favorite Coney Island restaurant in Detroit, or if you prefer, what toppings you like on a hot dog. Just leave your comment by 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 2.

The winner of the four tickets will be randomly selected from the entries. The tickets will be available at the Patch table at the dinner.

My favorite Coney Joint was the Senate on Michigan Ave. I always asked for plenty of onions and they flooded the plate with the trimmings. You couldn't eat just one. The Guys and Gals from Cadillac engineering team filled that place at lunchtime. Oh .....sooo good !!!

My favorite is at Macomb Mall. Staff there is so nice. I always get a coney with mustard and light onions, then split an order of nachos with whomever I drag along. I am having National cater my daughters wedding/College graduation/birthday/ going away party in June. She and her new husband are moving to Alaska for three years and I thought a good ole Detroit favorite that they cannot get up there would be a perfect send-off!

This is one of the hardest questions I have ever had to answer, let's say "one coney, no mustard, extra onions..mmmmmm I have always loved the locale at 13/Harper. I have been going there ever since I was a kid!!

11 & Gratiot is my favorite. After all night fishing we would stop there for breakfast and always had the best service. That was 13 yrs ago and now we take our boys there and they absolutely love it. Anything from National is good no complaints here :)

The best one is at Harper & 13. If you tell them to make the fries well done they come out brown and crunchy outside and perfect inside. Personal favorites are Coney Burgers and Hanis.

I enjoy the coney dogs at the original Zeff's in Eastern Market.

My favorite of course is this fundraiser for children with special needs. You can always give more than the $5 or $3 dollars they are asking for. $20 was my donation last year and will be again this year. Children with special needs are close to my heart not only because I have a niece with severe needs, but I also work for a state run insurance for children with special needs!

What a great idea, Ed! And so difficult! When Katherine Yung and I were writing the new book "Coney Detroit," for we drove along Gratiot, Woodward, Grand River and Michigan avenues just to count all the coneys. Then, we put a map in the book. The map shows 12 just on Gratiot -- and I would now add a 13th:
Gratiot Grill and Coney Island Hollywood Coney Island Aloha Coney Island Olympia Coney Island Coney Time Coney Island V.I.P. Coney Island Embassy Coney Island Western Coney & Grill National Coney Island Kerby's Coney Island Coney Island USA Gus's Coney Island New Haven Coney Island (Yes, this book tool a lot of work.) What a great idea for a benefit!
