Beach Update, Boating Forecast and Capt. Dan's Fishing Report

Patch shares some tips for events on—and in—Lake St. Clair this weekend.

Beach closures

The Macomb County Health Department tests the water at six public beaches twice a week for E. coli bacteria. These bacteria live in the digestive system of humans and warm-blooded animals.

If the levels of E. coli are unsafe (in excess of 300 E. coli colonies per 100 milliliters of water) swimmers could contract minor illnesses, including sore throats or diarrhea.

Boating forecast

The National Weather Service is forecasting southeast winds at 10 to 15 knots Friday night, diminishing to 5 to 10 knots and partly cloudy. There is a chance of thunderstorms with waves 1 to 2 feet.

Winds continue out of the southeast Saturday at 10 to 15 knots, before changing to the southwest 5 to 15 knots and partly sunny but there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Skies are expected to be partly cloudy Sunday, with west winds 5 to 15 knots with waves around 1 foot.

Capt. Dan's fishing report

Capt. Dan Chimelak, owner of Lakeside Fishing Shop, reports anglers have had some luck catching muskie, smallmouth and silver bass in the Detroit River, good fishing in the St. Clair River and some action with walleye near the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club.

St. Clair Shores pool

The St. Clair Shores will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission for the pool is $2 for children and seniors and $3 for adults. Admission for the pool and waterslide is $5, $3 for children and $4 for seniors. The pool opens daily for the summer on June 11.
