Applicants Line Up for McDonald's Jobs

Job hunters apply for jobs at St. Clair Shores' McDonald's during job fair.

Dennis Straub came to the s on 9 Mile Road on Tuesday with a resume and goal of finding a job.

Straub, 50, of St. Clair Shores, was hoping to find a job and eventually a career at the restaurant during McDonald's National Hiring Day.

"This is close to my home, and with the price of gas, it is a good fit," said Straub, who learned of the event from a television report. "The manager (in the news story) said you can grow with the company. I am looking for whatever they have open."

Straub was one of a steady stream of job candidates who interviewed with company officials during the daylong event in the St. Clair Shores restaurant. An area in the restaurant normally used for birthday parties was closed off for the job fair, which had as many three interviews occurring simultaneously.

Nationally, McDonald’s and its franchisees were looking to hire 50,000 new crew and restaurant management positions for seasonal, full and part-time positions. More than 2,000 people were expected to be hired in Michigan during the one-day event.

“Our customers are responding positively to the variety of choices on our menu as well as the value and convenience we provide,” said Tony Tollis, Human Resource Director for Michigan McDonald’s. “As our business continues to grow, we want to continue to provide our customers with a great experience in all of our restaurants. And every employee plays a vital role in helping us fulfill that goal.”

McDonald’s currently employs 32,300 people in 544 Michigan restaurants.
