Gotta Have Art? DIA Masterpieces Installed in the Shores

Van Gogh at Fishbone's? Neptune at Civic Arena?

Well this eclectic group can be seen throughout the Shores as part of the Detroit Institute of Arts' Inside/Out project, which takes framed, life-size digital reproductions of art from its collection to the streets of suburban Detroit communities.

The DIA has been working to install seven reproductions  of art masterpieces around St. Clair Shores for the summer. 

"This is fabulous for our community, and allows the public to visit and explore St. Clair Shores," said Greg Esler, parks and recreation director, who worked with the DIA to have the paintings placed in the city.

Here are the locations where the various pieces can be found:

• : Savoy Ballroom by Reginald Marsh.
• The Wreck by Eugène-Louis-Gabriel Isabey.
• Allegory of Hope by Alessandro Turchi.
• Neptune, God of the Waters, unknown artist.
• Bude Sands at Sunset by John Brett.
• : Colonel John Montresor by John Singleton Copley.
• : Bank of the Oise by Vincent van Gogh.

In all, there are 80 art masterpieces installed in communities across southeast Michigan. Other chosen communities are Brooklyn, Howell, Livonia, Manchester, Milan, New Baltimore, Novi, Romeo and Sterling Heights.
