Detroit Symphony Orchestra to Play Lakeview High School

The St. Clair Shores community will have an opportunity to attend a concert this September by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra will be performing at Lakeview High School's Schaublin Auditorium Sept. 25 as part of a series of concerts across Metro Detroit presented by the DTE Energy and the DTE Energy Foundation.

Having the orchestra, conducted by Leonard Slatkin, is an honor according to Lakeview officials.

"We were more than thrilled to get the chance for a night of classical music, by a World Class Orchestra," Warren Wilson, auditorium manager at Lakeview High School, wrote in an email.

The evening’s program will include “American Salute” by Morton Gould; “Variations on America” by Charles Ives; “Duke Ellington Fantasy” by Duke Ellington; “The Imperial March,” “Schindler’s List,” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark” by John Williams; and “Lincoln Portrait” by Aaron Copland, according to the district.

“The District is excited about hosting this event because it provides our community and students the opportunity to hear a professional orchestra in their own neighborhood,” states Superintendent Karl Paulson in a release. “At Lakeview, every 5th grader must take a musical instrument for at least one year which provides them exposure to our musical offerings which include Orchestra, Concert Band, and Marching Band in 5th – 12th grade. Lakeview is the only district in the area that provides a full string orchestra experience for our students and providing them the opportunity to hear the DSO is priceless.”
