Wigs 4 Kids Honored, to Hold Gala This Week

The St. Clair Shores charity received a donation from the Nautical Mile Merchants Association Wednesday and is preparing for its annual fundraiser later this week.

Adults who played games of chance at the 's this summer may have thought they had a good hand, but actually a local charity was the big winner.

The business association Wednesday presented Wigs 4 Kids with a $1,000 check from the Aquafest Casino Night. The money will be used by the non-profit organization to help children and young adults who are experiencing hair loss receive custom-fitted, age-appropriate wigs.

"The need is growing," said Maggie Varney, founder of Wigs 4 Kids, who has seen the need for wigs triple this year. "We could not do this without the love and support of the community. I thank you, and the kids thank you."
