Tracking Swim: Athlete Hauls Ton of Bricks Across Lake St. Clair

A long-distance swimmer took the plunge into his record-setting swim Monday morning, hauling a ton of bricks across Lake St. Clair for charity.

Michigan native Jim "The Shark" Dreyer's 22-mile swim began at the Clinton River Boat Club near Algonac en route to the Belle Isle Beach in Detroit.

By approximately 10:30 p.m., Dreyer had made tremendous strides, with live tracking of his location showing him about halfway to his destination.

Weather and lake conditions were less than ideal during his trek as temps were expected to dip into the low 60s with showers anticipated overnight.

Dreyer's test of endurance is to help fund Habitat for Humanity of Detroit building projects for as many as 75 affiliates through his Cornerstone Strength Swim Campaign.

Engraved commemorative bricks, including those he is towing for the world-record swim, are being sold to support the building project of the purchaser’s choice.
