Storms Cause Power Outages, Event Cancellation

Overnight storms knock out power to nearly 400 DTE Energy customers in St. Clair Shores and cause the cancellation of the Neighborhood Watch event in Veterans Memorial Park.

The strong thunderstorms that rolled through St. Clair Shores overnight knocked out power to hundreds of residents and downed a power line in .

Nearly 400 DTE Energy customers are without power today due to the storms. A downed power line in the park forced the cancellation of the .

After consulting with the police and fire chiefs, event organizer Cherie Mascarello, a police community resource officer, said the event was cancelled because DTE was unable to reconnect the power line. She added that the event will be rescheduled.

The 400 outages in the Shores are among nearly 14,000 DTE customers who lost power last night. 

The largest group of outages, with nearly 300 customers, is just north of 10 Mile and east of Jefferson.

DTE Energy spokesman John Austerberry said crews are being dispatched to restore power. He did not have an estimated time when it would be fully restored.
