St. Isaac and St. Lucy to Merge with Other Parishes

The Archdiocese of Detroit released plans Monday for local parishes in the Shores.

A reorganization plan was released Monday by the Archdiocese of Detroit, and changes will be coming to three parishes in St. Clair Shores.

According to the plan released by the Archdiocese:

According to the archdiocese, parishes which cluster share a single pastor, but maintain independent finances and have separate parish councils.

When parishes merge, two parishes form a single parish with a single pastor, combining both their finances and parish councils. Also, fewer worship sites may result.

The reorganization plan from the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council mirrors the initial plan for parishes proposed in November.

Two parishes in neighboring communities will be closed. Our Lady Queen of Peace in Harper Woods and St. Donald Parish in Roseville will close as early as 2012, according to a release from Archdiocese.

The plans were a topic of discussion on the St. Clair Shores Patch Facebook page.

Bob Holesak wrote, "Well I belong to SIJ (St. Isaac Jogues) and I'm not happy about a cluster merger between us and a church in Roseville. I went thru (sic) it at St. Gertrudes and it really was not a merger but more a takeover. I just might go to St. Joan of Arc. St. Joans will not be changed since the monsignor is there."

Elizabeth Tolomei Clausen wrote, "I also belong to St. Isaac. My thoughts are different...I am sad for the dedicated parishioners at St. Angela, but for St. Isaac's it seems this would be a good thing, financially. That being said, churches closing and merging is always very sad."
