Members of the U-14 SCSYSL team hosted a special cancer fundraising and awareness match Sunday at Kyte Monroe to raise funds for The Rapunzel Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping cancer patients keep their hair during chemotherapy.
Players, led by Coach Mike Berg, wore pink shirts with the names of loved ones affected by cancer through the generosity of Progressive Mechanical of Ferndale. After the game, there was a ceremony where Coach Mike announced the names players and the family member they were playing for in the game, and survivors in attendance received a pink carnation. At the end of the ceremony, the team held a balloon launch.
Funds were also raised at Caffe Far Bella.
