Skydivers Will Fly Into Jobbie Nooner

Beer, beads and boats will be joined by skydivers at the annual festivities this year.

The annual Jobbie Nooner boat party on Gull Island in Lake St. Clair will have an added attraction this year with Red Bull skydivers performing Friday.

The event, which started years ago and now attracts thousands of boats, is known —or infamous—for a Mardi Gras-style party with beads, alcohol and flashing of skin by attendees as they tie up their boats off the island.

This year, Red Bull is adding the activities with the Red Bull Motown Swoop. Eight professional skydivers will compete in an aerial contest to perform the best "swoop" after free-falling out of a plane.

“The idea behind Red Bull Motown Swoop is to take out the ‘normal’ competition technical aspects and simply judge the event on pure impression … it’s all about putting on the best show,” said Red Bull athlete and contest creator Jon Devore in a release.

Judges for the competition from noon-3 p.m. include Jason Krause, guitar player for Kid Rock; Detroit hip-hop artist Hush Carlisle; and the lead singer of the Dirty Americans’ Matthew “Myron” Kozuch.

While revelers enjoy the daylong party on the water, beach and skies, local law enforcement also will be on hand to ensure everyone gets home safely.

Members of the sheriff's marine divisions from St. Clair and Macomb counties, along with the U.S. Coast Guard, will be patrolling the waters in northern Lake St. Clair.

"Getting there isn't the problem, it's going home," said Anthony Wickersham, Macomb County Sheriff. "We are going to ensure our waterways our safe."
