Here are a few items to get your Tuesday started.

1. The National Weather Service is forecasting a 30 percent chance of rain today with a high near 56. There will also be a west, southwest wind around 8 miles per hour.

2. The meets at 7:30 p.m. today. Among the items on the agenda is an presentation on the 2010/2011 audit.

3. South African writer Mark Mathabane, author of the best-selling autobiography Kaffir Boy, will be speaking to the students at 8 a.m. today .  Mathabane will share his journey from ghettos of South Africa to a one-year assignment as a White House Fellow at the Department of Education.

4. The American Red Cross is asking anyone who is eligible to donate blood or platelets to do so as soon as possible, warning that local supplies are currently insufficient to meet the needs of our community’s hospitals in a timely manner. 5. A new Tim Hortons opened Monday in St. Clair Shores, and by next summer, a Biggby coffee shop may be open on the northwest corner of Harper and 11 Mile.
