Here are a few items to get your Wednesday started.

1. Cooler temperatures return today with a 30 percent chance of showers according to the National Weather Service. Skies will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 65. There will also be a southeast wind between 5 and 13 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 18 miles per hour.

2. The friends of the will be holding their fall book sale from 2-8 p.m. today (for Friends members only; you can join at the sale). Public hours are Oct. 13, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Oct. 14 and 15, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

3. Lake Shore Public schools will hold a at 7 p.m. today at . The event is open middle and high school students, parents, guardians and grandparents from Lake Shore and other districts. The presentation by Families Against Narcotics will include "real people sharing real stories" in their presentation about substance abuse and addiction.  Prior to the presentation at 6:30 p.m., Fraser Public Safety officers will have a drug display and will demonstrate the latest in drug paraphernalia, discuss the newest trends in drug use and answer questions.

5. This week is Fire Prevention Week. Today's fire safety tip from the National Fire Protection Association is blow out all candles when you leave the room or go to bed. Avoid the use of candles in the bedroom and other areas where people may fall asleep.
