Five things to get your day started in St. Clair Shores.

Here are a few items to help your day started.

1. After a summer-like Wednesday, the Shores will get cooler temperatures today according to the National Weather Service. Mostly sunny skies and a high near 78 is forecast, with winds from the northwest between 9 and 11 miles per hour. Gusts could be as high as 18 miles per hour.

2. Waves on Lake St. Clair are forecast to be between 1 to 2 feet today as the National Weather Service is forecasting northwest winds 10 to 15 knots. Later in the day, the winds will change direction and come from the north at 5 to 10 knots.

3. St. Clair Shores police and  departments will be hosting the second Summer Blast and Neighborhood Watch from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at . The event allows residents to meet with public safety personnel in a fun setting with food, entertainment, and the police K9 unit. Residents will also be able to speak with police personnel about how to set up a neighborhood watch, and tips on how to stay safe. The event was rescheduled due to a power line that fell in the park on July 19.

4. High school football season starts tonight with and opening with home games, and will be on the road at Royal Oak.

5. The future of Lake St. Clair, and its tributaries, is not just a local issue but one that is getting national attention and support from U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow and Michigan's Congressional delegation.
