Police Blotter: Police Investigate Senior Scam

Officers are also investigating the robbery of a CVS, an axe-wielding resident and domestic dispute.

Senior scam reported

A 78-year-old St. Clair Shores man contacted police after he was contacted by a person who claimed to be his grandson and needed money to be bailed out of jail in Toronto. The resident received a call Friday afternoon form a person saying he was his grandson and he was jailed for drunk driving in Toronto. A second person then got on the phone saying they were representing the grandson, and if over $3,000 was wired, the grandson would be released. After he sent the money he received another call requesting nearly $2,000 more for his grandson's release. Suspecting he may have been scammed, the grandfather contacted his grandson and learned he was not in Toronto. The resident then called the police, who are investigating.

A 31-year-old man from Worth, IL, plead guilty Tuesday to a charge of being drunk and disorderly Sunday night. Officers were called to the Blue Goose Inn for a disorderly male in the parking lot. Officers spoke with Christopher Krentkowski, who said he lost his glasses. In a police report, police said he smelled of intoxicants and his speech was slurred. He told police he'd been drinking at a friend's house. After he was informed he could not return to his friend's house, officers arrested him as he continued to yell obscenities. If he does not pay his fine within 30 days, he could face jail time.
