Photo Gallery: Sgt. Ergin Osman Honored and Remembered

St. Clair Shores gathers on the ball fields of St. Isaac Jogues Saturday to honor U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ergin Osman, who died while fighting in Afghanistan, and his sons who play for Lac St. Clair Little League.

It was an emotional day of celebration, honor and baseball Saturday at as Lac St. Clair Little League, representatives from the city's other sports leagues and members of the community came together to honor Army .

His death May 26 was difficult for his sons Aidan, 9, and Zeren, 5, who live in St. Clair Shores with their mother. But the one thing that has helped the family through the difficult times following his death has been playing baseball for Lac St. Clair Little League.

Osman and his family were honored Saturday during a ceremony at St. Isaac Jogues and also received a number of proclamations and honors, including a flag that was flown over the state capitol at half staff that was presented by State Rep. Anthony Forlini, a check from Paul Doppke who collected donations for the family and the announcement that the Detroit Tigers will treat the boys to an on-field visit before an upcoming game.

Commemorative bracelets were also sold to raise money for Osman's sons and a memorial trust fund has been set up at Charter One Bank. Donations can be made to the Staff Sgt. Ergin V. Osman Memorial Fund (acct#4520136813).
