Photo Gallery: Art Lovers Tour DIA Masterpieces in the Shores

Two busloads of art lovers received a guided tour Tuesday of the framed, life-size reproductions of the Detroit Institute of Arts' masterpieces that have been placed throughout the city.

The artworks are part of the Inside|Out project, which takes the digital reproductions of art from its collection to the streets of Detroit suburbs.

  • : Savoy Ballroom by Reginald Marsh.
  •  The Wreck by Eugène-Louis-Gabriel Isabey.
  •  Allegory of Hope by Alessandro Turchi.
  •  Neptune, God of the Waters, unknown artist.
  •  Bude Sands at Sunset by John Brett.
  • : Colonel John Montresor by John Singleton Copley.
  • : Bank of the Oise by Vincent van Gogh.

"We have to support the arts," said Nico Gatzaros, owner of which hosted the reception before tour.

In all, there are 80 masterpieces installed in communities across southeast Michigan. Other chosen communities are Brooklyn, Howell, Livonia, Manchester, Milan, New Baltimore, Novi, Romeo and Sterling Heights.

"If you like what you see here, we have a lot more in our collection," said Jennifer Czajkowski, executive director of education for the Detroit Institute of Arts.

As part of the Inside|Out project, St. Clair Shores residents can get free admission to the Detroit Institute of Arts this Sunday.
