Patch's Picks: Parks in the Shores

Let the kids run off their energy at one of the area's many parks.

Looking for a way to pass these long summer days with the kids? Stop by one of the many local parks Shores for a fun-filled day outside.

, a residents-only park, offers swings and other playground equipment, access to the beach, a fishing area and a band shell for concerts in the park. If it is a hot one, head over to the splash zone with the kids to cool off.

Picnic tables are also available for families who want to pack a lunch and spend the whole day at the park. Also, on Friday, July 22, the will be hosting the third annual St. Clair Shores . The event, sponsored by Christian Financial and Marchiori Catering, is a fun way to get together with the community.

Guests can arrive as early as 1 p.m., the movie will start at 9 p.m. Breakfast will be served at 8 a.m Saturday morning, but you will need to bring dinner and snacks for movie night. Caged and covered fire pits are allowed, and prizes will be awarded to the most creative camp. More information can be found at the Parks and Recreation website, www.scsparksrec.net. Registration is required and can be done by calling the department at (586) 445-5350.

If it's too hot to run around outside, drive up to the municipal pool and water slide located behind the l. Open swim starts at noon and runs until 8 p.m. Twilight swim starts at 6 p.m. until the pool closes. During this time, fees are half price. Entry to the pool ranges from $2 for the younger swimmers to $7  for the older crowd. Admission to both the pool and the water slide ranges from $3.00 to $12. A full list of prices can be found at the Parks and Recreation website. The pool is adjacent to the Lac Sainte Claire Park so the kids can run around to dry off after swimming.

For those with furry family members, stop by the , located inside Brys Park. A dog park pass is needed and can be purchased at the Civic Arena along with other park passes. Bring the kids along and let them play ball on one of the two baseball diamonds in Brys Park or let them run around the racing track. Brys Park is located on Harper Ave., near 8 Mile.

For a nice way to end the evening, head up to Wahby Park, in front of the . This may be more suited for the adults as there is no playground equipment. Take a walk around reflecting ponds and fountains. Resting benches and a domed gazebo are available for sitting.
