Patch's Picks: Father's Day Fun

Check out suggestions from Patch to make dad's day special.

Still not sure what to do for dad today? Patch searched the area and found a few different options bound to make Father's Day special.

If dad is an old car buff, stop by the for the Auto Show. This Father's Day tradition, celebrating its 24th anniversary,  runs from 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and features more than 200 cars from the past, present and the future. The show, whose theme is Designing for the Future, is sponsored by the Detroit Institute of Opthamology. All proceeds from the show will go towards funding for the visually impaired and related research. The cost is $20 at the gate per person, kids 12 and under are free with an adult. If classical music, not classic cars, is more up your dad's alley, travel down to the Detroit Institute of Art for this month's Breakfast with Bach. The Great Lakes Chamber Music Festical will be playing concerts at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.  Artistic Director John Tocco will be presenting Music of the Spheres. A continental breakfast will be served with the early show, the afternoon show will feature a hot entree, fresh fruit, breakfast breads, coffee, tea and juice. Vegetarian/vegan options will be available but must be requested when tickets are purchased. The 11 show with breakfast is $20, $35 for the 1:30 show and breakfast, if you don't plan on eating the concert is $15. Museum admission is included in the cost. Also Downtown, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, located at 315 E. Warren Avenue, is putting on a program featuring jazz and Gospel music. Give Thanks to the Fathers program starts at 4:00 p.m. and will feature Randy Scott and Newly Ordained. If you have little ones or would just prefer to stick close to home, the Grosse Pointe War Memorial is hosting Baby Animal Day from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. The cost is $3 per person, infants 1 and younger are free. Kids can get up close and personal with the animals in the petting zoo and even get pony rides. The war memorial is located at 32 Lake Shore Drive.

If you have a family that loves to dance, head up to Metro Beach, 31300 Metro Parkway, for their fun program. Dance the night away to the sounds of 1950's and 1960's pop music played by the Teen Angels. Located in the Thomas S. Welsh Activity Center, the program runs from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. If that's too late for the kids, call up a sitter and have a fun night out for mom and dad. Admission to the park is $5.
