Patch Gives Back To The St. Clair Shores Senior Center

Your St. Clair Shores Patch editor traded his laptop for a ladle to "Give 5" at the St. Clair Shores Senior Activities Center.

Give 5 is Patch's ongoing volunteer initiative and a part of Patch's mission to give back to our communities in a variety of ways throughout the year.

Edward Cardenas assisted chef Marti Marques in serving a freshly made turkey lunch, with garlic smashed potatoes, peas and homemade gravy with a side of freshly cut fruit, to nearly 40 diners.

The program serves 6,500 meals a year, not including, theme meals five days a week.

The popular program was in danger of cutting Friday lunches due to the federal sequester, but through the generosity of Shorepointe Premiere Management; the St. Clair Shores firefighters and Denise Coplai, who organized a fundraiser for the center, lunches will continue to be offered throughout the week.

"We are proud of the program and proud of Marti," said Sue Fickau, senior center coordinator.
