Optimist Club Honors St. Clair Shores Police Who Answer the 'Call to Courage'

The Optimist Club of St. Clair Shores St. Clair Shores honored members of the St. Clair Shores Police Department this week during the annual Call to Courage Awards & Appreciation breakfast at the Lakeland Banquet Centre.  

“I’m so proud that our club has been able to carry on this event and give our officers the recognition they deserve,” club president Debbie DePape stated in a release. “It’s our way of showing our appreciation to the men and women who protect our city on a daily basis.  There aren’t too many professions that every day you report to work, you’re putting your life on the line to protect others and the painful truth is that on most of those days these officers don’t get the respect they deserve.” 

This is one of many events the Optimists hold annually in St. Clair Shores that assists, and honors, the police department. These include the Poinsettia Ball and Rapid Search Child ID Project.  

“There are many fine charitable organizations in town, but the Optimist Club has always gone above and beyond in its relationship with the St. Clair Shores Police Department,” stated Police Chief Michael Walleman in a release.  “Their efforts and hard work tohonor us with this special event is very much appreciated. It re-energizes you as a police officer knowing that the work you do throughout the year is noticed and valued. The Police Department is very lucky to have such a wonderful group of caring people looking out for us.”
