The 60th annual St. Clair Shores Memorial Day is less than one month away and organizers are releasing more details about this community tradition.

The Memorial Day Parade is an annual event that draws thousands to St. Clair Shores to honor those who served and celebrate the unofficial start of summer.

As the day nears, organizers of the parade - which will be held on Harper this year -  are releasing additional details about the event.

  • The parade steps off at 1 p.m., Sunday, May 27, from Harper at Little Mack,
  • This year's theme is "Freedom's Not Free,"
  • There will be over 100 entries including military personnel, military vehicles, marching bands, floats, dignitaries, school and civic groups,
  • Fox 2's Chief Meteorologist, Rich Luterman, who served as Weather Detachment Commander during Desert Storm in 1991, will be the celebrity guest,
  • The U.S. Navy Band will also be part of the parade and will perform a free concert later in the evening at a yet to be determined location.

"Please join us in celebration and tribute to our military men and women - past, present and future," said Cheryl Furdos, advertising and marketing chair for the parade, in an email.
