Macomb Community College Hosts Veterans Celebration And Reception

The Detroit VA Healthcare System, Macomb Community College and the State of Michigan is hosting a Celebration and "Welcome Home" for Veterans.

Macomb Community College is hosting a Veterans' Celebration and Welcome Home Reception at the Lorenzo Cultural Center at the Macomb Community College's Center Campus in Clinton Township.

The event, for veterans of all ages and all branches of service, includes
representatives from a variety of Veteran Affairs organizations to answer questions related to VA benefits, including compensation and pension, education, health care, private and confidential military sexual assault and trauma counseling, and legal issues, according to organizers.

“Welcome Home events are great in terms of allowing us to meet with Veterans and inform them about the services available to them both here at the medical center and throughout the state,” said Dr. Pamela Reeves, Medical Center Director, said in a release. “So often, veterans come home after serving and they are unaware of their benefits, the steps they must go through to apply, health care here at the medical center and more. This gives us a chance to answer so many of their questions and realize their needs in one place, at one time.”

Staff from Macomb Community College and Oakland University will be available  to speak to Veterans on the Post 9-11 GI Bill and other programs available to them.

The event runs until 6 p.m. Wednesday. Veterans who are unable to attend can contact Veterans Affairs at (313) 576-1000 or www.detroitva.gov
