Lakeside Community Church Holds First Blessing of the Backpacks

Pastor Ken Render prays for safe year for students of all ages

Students from kindergarten to college age gathered Sunday at in St. Clair Shores for the church's first-ever Blessing of the Backpacks by Senior Pastor Ken Render.

"The church prays for God's protection for the children of the community," said Render, during the service at . "We want them to have a safe and excellent school year."

The blessing took place during the morning service.

The church's children's pastor, Sherrie Jacobsen, 54, of St. Clair Shores, said children today face many pressures and she hopes the children will continue to follow God's direction and continue to make good choices in life.

Children's pastor Rachel Firchau, 21, of Warren was there with her husband, Sam, 24, of Warren to help set up the church's carnival after the morning service and the blessing of the backpacks.

She said it was great to see so many smiling faces and invites the community to drop by to check out the church during its weekly Sunday service at the school.

"The blessing of the backpacks and the free carnival are all part of our community outreach,"said Firchau. "We want the children and the families to have a great, wholesome time. I feel the church is a very important part of my life. We are here for each other and to show God's love."
