Keeping the Love in Our City

St. Clair Shores' diverse age population brings great joy in raising a family in the Shores. Learn the past from those who have walked before us.

One of the things I enjoy most about raising my family in St. Clair Shores is the diverse age groups we have living among us.

It is wonderful to live somewhere where the original homeowners still live all around you, while newlyweds and new families are popping out among the blocks too. It is great to look out my window and see families walking in the evening and hear stories of those who have walked before them from the elders among us.

A large city with a small town feel! Frequently, friends that do not live within our city will comment, “I do not even know my neighbors’ names” and “really, you hang out with your neighbors?” I reply with an astounding “I love my neighbors!"

It is no secret that the housing market has taken a drastic turn with people moving, renting, losing homes and everything in between. My hope for our city is that we keep that "large city with a small town feel" despite the shifts in the housing market.

The best way to do so is stay connected with those around us. Meet your neighbors old and new!

We are blessed to have many “grand-neighbors” on our block. They are such a blessing to us as I am sure we are to them. My children love the cookies, suckers and hugs. While the time spent sharing stories, laughs, and fellowship are priceless for all involved.

So much of what makes our city great is the history of the places within. The oldie but goodie neighborhood secrets so to speak. Unfortunately, many have been forced to shut their doors over the past few years. However, a few great ones still remain among us!

Be sure to visit those historical shops with your families and share in Saint Clair Shores history.

Lastly, stay active in the community. Reduce, reuse, recycle and keep our city clean for future generations. Don’t be afraid to report all suspicious people and persons lurking in your area to the local police department.

Love your neighbor, it takes a village to raise a child and St. Clair Shores is your village! We just need to do our part to keep its historical past long into the future.

I would love to hear from you on the Patch or at amamajourney@gmail.com
