Help 'Stamp Out Hunger': Leave Canned Food Items by Your Mailbox Today

Leave a bag of nonperishable food items by your mailbox today to take part in the nation's largest single-day food drive.

Postal customers in St. Clair Shores can help "stamp out hunger" by leaving a bag of nonperishable food items by your mailbox today.

The Campbell Soup Company and National Association of Letter Carriers' are partnering once again for the 20th annual "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive, the largest single-day food drive in the nation. 

Held on the second Saturday in May, the 2011 drive collected some 70.2 million pounds of food, which marked the eighth consecutive year that at least 70 million pounds were collected by letter carriers, according to a press release.

“We’re incredibly excited for the 20th anniversary of the Stamp Out Hunger food drive,” said Fredric V. Rolando, NALC president, in a prepared statement. “We’re asking people across the country for their support to make this year’s drive the most successful in its 20 year history. It’s so easy to make a donation: simply leave a bag of non-perishable food by your mailbox to help neighbors in need. That’s all it takes.”

So grab a sturdy bag, fill it up with canned items or boxed goods, and be sure to have it next to your mailbox before your normal mail pick-up time today.

Letter carriers will collect these food donations as they deliver the mail and take them to a local Feeding America food bank or hunger-relief organization.
