Happening This Weekend: Wine, Laughs and Classic Crooning

Plan your weekend in the Shores with these suggestions.


Where/When: Brownie's on the Lake, 24214 Jefferson; 7-9 p.m. Sept. 29.
Why Go: Brownie's on the Lake holds a wine tasting tonight, where you'll sample eight wine buys under $15 that are perfect for fall. Appetizers will be served, too, in a mixer format.

LAUGHS FOR A CAUSE
Where/When: , 6 p.m. Sept. 30.
Why Go: The Grosse Pointe Crisis Club is holding a comedy night fundraiser featuring Michigan native Steve Bills, with Tom Massey opening the show. Enjoy appetizers, open bar, dinner, followed by teh show.
Pricing: $30.  


Where/When: , 9:30 p.m. Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
Why Go: Catch Rod Stewart-tribute band Danny D & The Vagabonds at the Blue Goose Inn this weekend. Hear all the classics and more.

CEMETERY TOUR
Where/When: Meet at the , 10 a.m. Oct. 1.
Why Go: Get into the spirit of things with the Cultural Committee's bus tour of historic Mount Elliot and Elmwood cemeteries in Detroit. Both sites are rich with history, having been founded before the Civil War. The tour heads to Mount Elliot first, then everyone will head to the Capuchin Fathers Monastery for lunch, and tour and a visit to Father Solanus Casey's Grave. After that the group heads to Elmwood to round off the tour.
Pricing: $25.

Why Go: If you're looking for family fun, come to the library on Saturday for a free family movie matinee of "Spooky Buddies," rated G. Popcorn will be available, but you're welcome to bring your own snacks as well as pillows or blankets for hunkering down on the floor.
