Happening This Weekend: Arts, Oysters and Outdoor Fun

Fundraisers, oysters al fresco with a side of jazz, fall festivities and more await your weekend planning.

Where/When: Anton Art Center, 125 Macomb Place, Mount Clemens; 5:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 22.
Why Go: Think Fat Tuesday fun a few months later in the week and on the calendar with the Anton Art Center's ArtParty Mardis Gras bash. More than two dozen area eateries will be serving up goodies, from appetizers to sweet treats, and plenty in between, under a tent outside the Art Center. Guests can sip cocktails, browse the art or bid on it and other enticements at the auction, buy raffle tickets, while enjoying live entertainment and more.
Pricing: $60 for event tickets. Raffle tickets are $5 a piece or $20 for five. Call 586-469-8666 if you have questions.  

Where/When: , 6:30-10 p.m. Sept. 22.
Why Go: The St. Clair Shores Cops for Kids and  are casting off tonight for the 8th Annual Dinner Cruise aboard the Ovation. Guests will enjoy a premium open bar, dinner, music by the Dave Huff Band while living it up for a little while out on the open water.

Where/When: Metro Beach Metropark, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sept 22-23; 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sept 24; and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 25. 
Why Go: The Michigan Boating Industries Association's Boating & Outdoor Festival returns to Metro Beach for four days. Shop for all things boating and watercraft, plus other recreational items. Visit displays and check out demonstrations. Be entertained in the Tiki Bar or by Duma the waterskiing dog, live music, and contests going on daily. There is also art, the BRP Ultimate Playground at the South Marina (with an off-road course), Sea Doo fun, kid-friendly amusements and more.
Pricing: Admission is $9 for adults, and children under 12 get in free with an adult. To enter the Metroparks a vehicle entry permit is required. Cost is $5 daily, or $25 for an annual pass, or $15 for seniors. For more on the festival, visit BoatingandOutdoorFest.com.

Why Go: The Tree of Hope Postpartum Research and Education Foundation presents The Ladybug Ball. Wear red and black attire (if you like) and enjoy dinner, dancing, raffles, silent auction and more.

Where/When: By the Selinsky-Green Farmhouse Museum, behind ; 9-11 a.m. Sept. 24.
Why Go: Just because autumn has arrived doesn't mean it's time to stop thinking of the garden entirely. Stop by this Saturday morning for the Yardeners fall plant exchange. Green thumbs can trade plants, advice, and more. Please label any plants you are bringing to the exchange.  
Pricing: Essentially free, especially if your hostas, mint or whatever else you may have growing thrived.

Where/When: 23101 Stadium Drive; 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 24.
Why Go: The Lac Ste. Clair Kiwanis holds its annual St. Clair Shores Fun Fest and Appreciation Day in the parking lot of South Lake Stadium. Plenty of fun is planned, including a kite-flying contest, bike rodeo, petting zoo, free sight and hearing exams, a visit from the city's K-9 Unit, plus a fire department smoke house. The opening ceremonies are to include the Vietnam Vets Honor Guard Post 154 and Hannah Dell, past Little Miss St. Clair Shores, who will sing the national anthem.
Pricing: Free and open to all.

Where/When: , 5 p.m. Sept. 24.
Why Go: Celebrate the start of autumn at the Senior Center, which holds its Fall Festival Celebration Saturday afternoon and evening. Wear your favorite team colors and enjoy a hot dog dinner, with roasted corn, chips and beverage; a viewing of the movie Rudy; yard games and a bonfire.
Pricing: $5. Concessions will be available, too, for extra. Call 586-445-0996 if you have any questions.

Where/When: 15215 Kercheval, Grosse Pointe Park, 5-9 p.m. Sept. 26.
Why Go: It might be officially autumn, but it's a fabulous way to enjoy a summery evening as St. Ambrose presents its 21st annual Oysterfest Monday evening. Be sure to arrive hungry so you can enjoy a luscious sampling of foods by several area restaurants offering everything from seafood to Cajun, Mexican to Caribbean, and plenty more in between, capped off by sweets, naturally. A variety of beers will be served, along with wine selections, plus beverages for teetotalers to quench their thirst. Also enjoy live music from area musicians, including the jazzy Edgar Wallace Trio. 
Pricing: Tickets cost $25 for adults, or $12.50 for children under age 12. Raffle tickets are also being sold for $5 a piece, and the drawing will be held at 9 p.m.
