From Hollywood to St. Clair Shores - 'Argo' Houseguests to Attend Memorial Day Parade

Mark and Cora Lijek, two of the American "houseguests" profiled in the Oscar-winning movie "Argo" will be in the St. Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade.

The St. Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade will feature a number of veterans, local Scout groups, sports teams and the subjects of international intrigue who were featured in the Oscar-winning movie Argo.

Detroit native Mark Lijek, and his wife Cora—who were two of the six Americans who took refuge in the Canadian embassy during the Iranian hostage crisis and were able to escape through an elaborate CIA plan—will be in the annual parade.

"This is good news for the parade," said Councilwoman Candice Rusie, who made the announcement at a recent meeting.

The Lijeks be part of the parade which steps off at 1 p.m. May 26. on Jefferson at 9 Mile Road. 

Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser

To help offset the costs of holding the parade, St. Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade Committee will hold a spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 4:30 - 8 p.m. Thursday at the Assumption Cultural Center. Admission is $10 for adults and seniors, and $5 for children 10-years-old and under. Music will be provided Outrageous Jams.
