Friends, Family And Hockey Players Return To The Rink For Dale Buss
The hockey community came together Tuesday to celebrate the life of Grosse Pointe Shores resident Dale Buss, who died Aug. 17.
For nearly five decades Dale Buss led hockey teams, mentored young people and organized top flight hockey tournaments which attracted top teams from across the country.
On Tuesday night many of those people came from across the country to fill Civic Arena in St. Clair Shores for a memorial service and celebration of the life of Buss, who died on Saturday, August 17, in Traverse City.
Buss, 64, of Grosse Pointe Shores, was a staple in the hockey community, having coached for 47 years along with being the chairman of the Silver Stick tournaments held at Civic Arena which attracts local, national and international teams.
He coached the Saints' Midget A team last season to a MAHA State title and a runner-up finish at Nationals at Troy in April, according to an article published by Hockey Weekly.
In addition to his success on the ice, he also ran a successful medical practice in Troy.
Survivors include sisters Diana Phillips and Darlene Furrer, and brothers David Buss and Dennis Buss.
