DIA in the Shores: "Hope" at City Hall

"Allegory of Hope" is part of the Detroit Institute of Arts Inside/Out program in the Shores.

Between the St. Clair Shores and is a portrait of "Hope."

A digital reproduction of Allegory of Hope has been installed between the two city buildings as part of the Detroit Institute of Arts Inside|Out program, which places art reproductions throughout Metro Detroit.

Similar to other works placed in St. Clair Shores, the painting by Allesandro Turchi features an anchor, which has a nautical and inspirational theme.

"Hope is personified as a woman holding an anchor," states a plaque displayed next to the artwork. "The artist uses symbolism that would have been clear to his Christian patrons: just as an anchor provides security for a ship, the virtue of Hope is crucial to the Christian concept of salvation."

St. Clair Shores Patch is featuring all seven pieces of St. Clair Shores' DIA artwork this week.
