Children Donate Candy For The Troops

Families from across Macomb County donated candy Friday to Operation Gratitude, which will send it to troops overseas.

Children and families from across Macomb County traveled to the office of Dr. P. Steven Wainess in St. Clair Shores Friday for the annual Halloween candy buy back.

This is the third year Dr. Wainess has held the buy back, which offers $1 per pound for unopened candy. The donated candy is then shipped to troops overseas through Operation Gratitude.

In addition to accepting candy, the dental office staff and volunteers provided cider and doughnuts, a station for children to write letters to the troops along with military reenactors who displayed vintage vehicles.

(Dr. Steven Wainess, U.S. Army SSgt. Rafael Diaz and Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel appear in the video with children who donated candy to Operation Gratitude.)
