Bites Nearby: Beach Grill

This week's Bites takes us to the Beach Grill, which recently reopened for the season.

St. Clair Shores Patch and readers choose a place to dine each week. What's on the menu this week?

Overview: Open from April 1 to late November each year, The Beach Grill is the place to be in Saint Clair Shores during the summer months. For boating enthusiasts and residents alike, The Beach Grill offers fun atmosphere and good quality food.

Drinks: Since The Beach Grill is open during the summer months primarily, it makes sense that the first section of their menu focuses on drinks. Try the Frozen Georgia Peach for a sweet, refreshing treat or, since it is summer, drink a pint of Bells Oberon, the quintessential Michigan beer of summer.

Appetizers: An interesting array of seemingly different items with the most fascinating being escargot. While not exotic by any means, escargot isn't on as many menus as it used to be.

Soups & Salads: While chili might make you think about fall or winter, the prime rib chili is not to be missed. The sunburst fruit salad, an assortment of gourmet mixed greens and Romaine lettuce, topped with golden delicious apple slices, baby Mandarin oranges, strawberries, kiwi, sugared pecans and sprinkles of toasted coconut is like the tropics on a plate.

Sandwiches/Burgers: The Beach Grill Clubhouse is honey roasted turkey breast and bacon on toasted marble rye with lettuce, tomatoes, mayonnaise and aged Cheddar cheese. Not much different than a normal club, but the addition of aged cheddar and marble rye is a nice touch.

The Daytona sandwich, flame grilled chicken breast and bacon topped with pepper Jack cheese, shredded lettuce, tomato, onion and Daytona sauce is a spicy and salty take on a grilled chicken sandwich.

For the outrageous price of $9.99, you can taste a decadently luscious Kobe burger. Kobe is one of the finest grades of beef, so a burger made from it is a truly special treat.

Beef, Chicken, & Seafood: While a large portion of the menu could be seen as lunch and/or bar food, there is definitely a good selection of traditional entrees, too. From the prime rib (available after 4 p.m.) to the flame grilled chicken casino to blackened swordfish steak, there's something for any protein craving.

A small selection of pasta is also available including Beach Grill Creole pasta, blackened chicken breast, gulf shrimp, green bell peppers, mushrooms and tomatoes in a creole cream sauce, tossed with fettuccine.

Dessert: Do not, I repeat DO NOT, skip out on the Grilled Lemon Cake ala Mode. The menu says it is enough to share—that might be true, but I finished one off with relative ease. It is quite sweet, but the texture of the cake after being grilled is something wonderful.
