Beach Update, Boating Forecast and Capt. Dan's Fishing Report

Patch shares some tips for events on—and in—Lake St. Clair this weekend.

Beach Closures

The Macomb County Health Department tests the water at six public beaches twice a week for E. coli bacteria. These bacteria live in the digestive system of humans and warm-blooded animals.

If the levels of E. coli are unsafe (in excess of 300 E. coli colonies per 100 milliliters of water) swimmers could contract minor illnesses, including sore throats or diarrhea.

Boating Forecast

The National Weather Service is forecasting variable winds 10 knots or less Saturday with mostly cloudy skies with chance of showers and thunderstorms with waves around 1 foot.

Sunday, winds will be out of the northwest 5 to 15 knots with partly sunny skies and waves 1 to 2 feet. 

Capt. Dan's Fishing Report

Capt. Dan Chimelak, owner of Lakeside Fishing Shop, reminds anglers they don't need a fishing license this weekend for free fishing weekend in Michigan waters. He has heard there has been some silver bass action in the Detroit River and perch on the Canadian side of Lake St. Clair. Also the fish are starting to be caught around Metropolitan Beach Metropark

St. Clair Shores Pool and Splash Pad

The St. Clair Shores  and splash pad will open daily for the summer this Saturday.
