The Nautical Mile is hive of activity during the summer with boating activities, runners and bicyclists, shoppers and diners.

But when the seasons change, and the snow begins to fall, the fast pace slows down - expect this year.

Members of the community have come together to plan the three-day SCS Aqua Freeze Festival in February with music, a beer tent, ice carving, family events and a polar plunge into lake St. Clair.

"We were looking to add events in the community in the winter," said Geri Hoffman, who has worked with Linda Bologna to organize the event.

While the festival will be centrally located at Blossom Heath park, events are planned along Jefferson and the Nautical Mile during the festival.

The schedule includes:

Friday, Feb. 21
Events run from 5 - 9 p.m.
A torch run from City Hall to Blossom Heath will kickoff the event.
A fish fry will be held Friday evening.
A beer tent will be open from 6 -9 p.m. with a performance by the band BEDHEAD

Saturday, Feb. 22
Events run from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.
A chili dog lunch on Saturday, pasta dinner on Saturday
A beer tent will be open from 6 -9 p.m. with a performances by Whiplash and Ernie Modesto

Sunday, Feb. 23

A polar plunge will be held at noon. There is a $25 cost, which will support future Aqua Freeze Festivals. To obtain a waiver form, email organizers at scsaquafreeze@gmail.com
Boy Scout Troop 1489 will serve a Sunday breakfast

Additionally there will be a drink contest for restaurants on the Nautical Mile to create an Aqua Freeze themed drink. There will also be ice carving, ice bowling, skating on the Blossom Heath pond, mini golf and a sledding hill during the weekend.

Business sponsorships are still available to have an ice sculpture carved in front of their business, and can call (586) 419-3772 for more information.
