Active Aging Summit Planned for Seniors

Seniors and their families can attend the inaugural event Friday at Lakeview High School.

Seniors of all ages will be able to get healthy living tips, gifts and take part in a wide variety of seminars at the inaugural Friday at .

The event, organized by the , is bringing together a diverse collection of vendors, speakers and events for seniors.

By having it in a larger venue than the center, organizers are able to welcome a greater variety of presenters for seniors from the Shores and surrounding communities.

"We thought this would be the perfect partnership with people who do not normally get in the Senior Center," said Sue Fickau, senior center coordinator.

The free event runs from 2 p.m. - 7 p.m. and will include vendors and presentations on:

  • Health and wellness  
  • Items for Christmas
  • Raffles
  • Bounce volleyball
  • Chair massage and yoga
  • Technology presentation about phones, tablet computers and social media
  • Attorney general senior brigade
  • Presentation by Tom Keating who will speak about "taking care of the things we have people we love"
  • Peter Lichtenberg will speak about healthy aging

A shuttle will run from the large parking lot to the school. Food will be prepared by a team of retired restaurant professionals and will be available for purchase.
