There was excitement in the air as the St. Isaac Jogues Chargers Varsity Football team took the field on Saturday against the Ann Arbor Saints. The Chargers, led by head coach Shawn Martin, were pumped up after watching the JV team seal the Class D Division Championship Title.
The Chargers started the scoring early. Scott Nelson, number 10, added to his scoring streak with two touchdowns to become SIJ Chargers Football all-time scoring leader. Nelson once again showed off his athletic ability racking up a team leading 10 tackles.
The quarter back Joe Lietzow, number 7, had a great showing completing 2 of 3 passes for over 70 yards.
Brian MaCamara, number 22, had a huge impact on the game with two touchdowns, the longest was for 25 yards. He also made a defensive contribution with six tackles.
The golden foot kicker number 81, John Lizza, converted 2 of 4 point after attempts. He had five kickoffs all over 40 yards. This, along with persistent pressure by the defense, helped keep the Chargers in good field position.
