Huey Lewis and the News, Ratt Among New Acts Playing Freedom Hill

Additional acts including Huey Lewis and the News, Ratt and Creedence Clearwater Revisited have been added to the new season at Freedom Hill Amphitheatre in Sterling Heights.

Three new acts have been announced for Freedom Hill Amphitheatre in Sterling Heights. Tickets can be purchased at www.freedomhill.net or by phone at 888-929-7849.  Late last year it was was announced the 7,200-seat facility would be reopening. The first act signed to play Freedom Hill Amphitheatre was Grammy-winning band Lady Antebellum.

South Lake's "Beauty and the Beast" Takes the Show on the Road

The cast of South Lake High School Drama Club's production of "Beauty and the Beast" previewed a couple of selection from the show for schools in the district and a local nursing home.

The cast of South Lake High School Drama Club's production of "Beauty and the Beast" previewed the show for members of the community. The musical, which includes students from elementary to high school, preformed Monday at Koepsell, Avalon and Elmwood elementary schools and St. Mary's Nursing Home. The community performance of "Beauty and the Beast" at 7 p.m. March 22 and March 23. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, $7 for students. Tickets Available for Senior Center Trip to see a Performance of "The Cross and the Light"

The Senior Activities Center is hosting a trip to the Detroit Music Hall for a performance of "The Cross and the Light" and lunch at Xocimilco Mexican restaurant.

The St. Clair Shores Senior Activities Center has planned a trip to the Detroit Music Hall to see a performance March 27 of The Cross and the Light. The performance takes attendees through Christ's passion, death and resurrection. The center has a special package available for $69 that includes transportation, a ticket to the show and lunch at Xocimilco Mexican restaurant. Caffe Far Bella Hosts St. Joan of Arc Student Art Exhibit

Caffe Far Bella in St. Clair Shores is displaying a variety of artworks created by students at St. Joan of Arc Catholic School.

A variety of pieces of art from 21 students at St. Joan of Arc Catholic School are on display at Caffe Far Bella. The cafe hosts art work from students and local artists throughout the year.

Movie Release Date Set for Kristin Chenoweth Movie Filmed in Macomb County

The motion picture 'Family Weekend' was filmed in Macomb County in February 2011.

Macomb County's time on the silver screen in the movie Family Weekend will come later this month. The film, which was filmed at Lakeview High School in St. Clair Shores and other locations throughout the county, will open March 29 in Detroit, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Dallas, according to the movie's website. Nearly two years ago crews descended on Macomb County to film Family Weekend, starring Kristin Chenoweth, Matthew Modine, Shirley Jones, Oleysa Rulin and a cast of Macomb County extras. The film features Rulin as a 16-year-old jump-roping champ who takes her dysfunctional parents hostage in an effort to transform them into an actual family. Memorial Park Summer Concert Schedule Released

It is not too soon to start planning your summer evenings as the St. Clair Shores Activities Committee releases the 2013 Music on the Lake concert schedule.

The days of cold weather, snow and early sunsets will soon end, and the sounds of classic rock, blues and jazz will soon fill the Veterans Memorial Park. The St. Clair Shores Activities Committee released the schedule for the 2013 Michelob Ultra Music on the Lake Concerts at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays during the summer. Additionally, there will be a family movie after the July 10 and Aug. 14 concerts.

Detroit Institute of Arts Thanks Metro Area Voters

The 2012 approval of a millage to help support the museum "was an amazing statement on regionalism," DIA chief operating officer Annmarie Erickson said recently.

Regionalism was the word of the day recently when the Detroit Institute of Arts announced which suburban communities will host Inside|Out installations this spring and summer. There were 25 communities selected to host reproductions of the museum's masterpieces as part of the 2013 program, which will be the first since a millage to help support the DIA was passed in August. Voters in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties approved a tax of 0.2 mills for the next 10 years to help cover the museum's operating costs. In return, tri-county residents will receive free admission to the DIA for the next decade. In the meanwhile, the museum's fundraisers will work to build a sustainable endowment.
