Construction crews began excavating and preparing a vacant parcel at Harper and Elizabeth Tuesday for the new Wally's Frozen Custard.

Owner Matt Ahearn expects construction of the new frozen custard shop to take about three months.

Once complete, the current location in Harper Woods will close and one week later the new building will open.

Ahearn said the new building will offer a greater number of parking spots than the current location in Harper Woods.

Additionally, the 2,600-square-foot brick building will have a drive-thru window for frozen treats and items from an expanded menu including coffee, tea, hot chocolate, bagels and other items they featured at The Galley Cafe, which they formerly operated at the St. Clair Shores Library.

The start of construction of the new Wally's comes after a busy week of development news in St. Clair Shores. City officials announced Buffalo Wild Wings would be building a restaurant on Harper, north of Nine Mile, and developers submit an application to rezone property at 12 Mile and Little Mack for a movie theater.

13 & little mack would be a,perfect spot for.the theater if the other location falls through. Lots of empty space and parking betweent the closed kmart building and the strip mall lot that.is more than half empty!
