Suspect in Shore Pointe Motor Lodge Stabbing Arraigned

A 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the stabbing of two men early Sunday morning in the parking lot of the Shore Pointe Motor Lodge.

A 36-year-old Detroit man was arraigned Wednesday in connection with the stabbing of two men in the parking lot of the Shore Pointe Motor Lodge.

Dawayne Johnson was charged with two counts of assault with intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder for the stabbing early Sunday morning of a 31-year-old Warren man and a 26-year-old St. Clair Shores man.

Both men were transported to St. John Hospital by a friend where they were treated for their injuries. They are in temporary serious condition.

Investigators were able to identify Johnson as the suspect in the stabbing. Early Wednesday morning he was arrested following a traffic stop by the Livonia Police Department. At the time of the arrest on the charges from St. Clair Shores he was allegedly driving the vehicle involved in the stabbing at the motor lodge.

He was transported to St. Clair Shores, where he was arraigned on the charges and had bond set at $300,000 by 40th District Court Judge Joseph Oster.

When asked by Oster if he had a criminal history, he said he didn’t have any “major” criminal history.

"I have been straight and narrow for years. I take care of my two sons," Johnson said.

When asked about bond, he said that he is not a flight risk and, "If I knew anything about the charges I would have turned myself in."

Oster called Johnson's charges "serious" and "implicate a threat to the community."

"The safety of the community is the greatest concern of mine," Oster said prior to setting the bond. He added the requirement that he has a tether if he is to post the bond, and he is to have no contact with the victims or the Motor Lodge.

Johnson will have a preliminary exam Feb. 19 in 40th District Court.
