St. Clair Shores Senior Center Extends Hours

The St. Clair Shores Senior Activities has expanded hours to meet growing demand for services.

The St. Clair Shores Senior Activities Center expanded hours this week to accomodate growing demand for services at the facility.

New hours for the center will be 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Monday - Thursday, and 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. Friday.

Membership fees were also modified to reflect the extended hours. Residents can join for $25 per year, and the general public can join for $40 per year.

Included in the membership fee are classes and use of the fitness room, which is staffed throughout the day. New activities which are proposed for the center include Mexican train dominoes, Zumba and swing dance lessons.

"People who work and watch their grandchildren were not able to get in," said Sue Fickau, Senior Center Coordinator, discussing the reasons for expanded hours. "We are thankful for the mayor and council's vote which allowed us to increase hours."

Additionally, member Gene Meyer said the center will also be renting the bocce courts to local groups and organizations.

Rental fees are $3 for one game, and two games for $5.

"We are trying to get more people involved," said Meyer, who is championship bocce player.

For more information about the center, volunteer, or to rent the courts, call (586) 445-445-0996.

I play bocce and shuffleboard all summer. I also treat myself to Chef Marti's wonderful lunches 2 or 3 days a week.
